Suffragists

Who were the brave suffragists that made it possible for me to express my opinions through voting? This series of Encaustic pieces introduce the audience to some of these un-sung heroines. This part of history is generally unknown.

My recent exploration of encaustic painting evokes a personal connection to vulnerability of fighting for justice. As heat can destroy the beeswax, so can hate and injustice destroy the foundations of democracy. The supple, aromatic quality of wax, engages the senses and bring the viewer into the common experience of our shared humanity. Through this series of portraits I celebrate the women who fought for our basic right to vote. I look to the future in hope that true equality will soon come to all people.
