Lifetime of Snapshots “Lifetime of Snapshots “examines the complexity of all families through the lens of Melody’s own family. It includes figurative paintings, installations, and sound. All of which are snapshots from her story. But they also tell our collective stories. In this digital age when every image is curated to create the ideal, this exhibit harkens back to a time when images most often captured the non-curated moments. There is a mythology surrounding the notion of the ideal family, but all families are unique, ugly, beautiful, and… well, complicated.

Remembering...Memories are such tricky things. You might even say that they are translucent. Studies have discovered that our memories change when we interact with them, and we know what time does to them. This exhibit explores the ephemeral, shifting, and translucent nature of memories. Visitors will encounter memory through interactive elements that engage all five senses. Faint, ghost-line multi-media art and installation art point to the many ways that we remember.

Universal Truths
This series of paintings investigates the many universal truths including Chakras, philosophy, religion and science. My creative process begins with a curiosity, and then a time of reflection. Interestingly, my current curiosity is focused on the second step of this creative process.: Reflection.
I am intrigued by the universal truth found in the study of chakras. The chakras are a traditional form of wisdom based on reflection; you might say inner reflection. Each color brings attention to personal and energic aspect of the self. In this series of encaustic paintings mixed with screen-printing, I use the colors found in the 7 chakras and incorporate statements of affirmation that are tied to the wisdom each of the chakras. |
