Who were the brave suffragettes that made it possible for me to express my opinions through voting? This series of Encaustic pieces introduce the audience to some of these
un-sung heroines. This part of history is generally unknown. My recent exploration of encaustic guides me to discuss the vulnerability of women. As heat can destroy the beeswax, so can hate and injustice destroy the foundations of democracy. The supple, aromatic quality of wax, are feminine in nature. Through this series of portraits I celebrate the women who fought for our basic rights to vote. I look to the future in hope that true equality will soon come to all people.
